Labiaplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure that can change the shape, reduce the size, and better define the labia, which are the folds of skin that surround the opening of the vagina. Labiaplasty can reduce discomfort, result in a more youthful appearance of the external genitals, and improve confidence and self esteem for many women.
Large or irregularly-shaped labia often develop as a result of aging, genetics, or childbirth. This condition not only can cause chronic discomfort and irritation, but also can be a source of embarrassment. In some cases, the labia are noticeable under close-fitting clothing and bathing suits, causing a woman to feel self-conscious or unattractive, and affecting sexual intimacy.
For some women, participating in physical activities, such as running and bicycling, wearing fashionable clothing, and sexual intercourse are uncomfortable and can cause feelings of distress. Labiaplasty can help improve the quality of life substantially for these women.
